"State-of-the-Art Compassionate Care for the Infertile Couple"

Dr. Philip S. Li is an Assistant Research Professor of Urology, as well as Assistant Research Professor of Reproductive Medicine; and Director of Microsurgical Research and Training Program at the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery, Cornell Institute for Reproductive Medicine, and Department of Urology, at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Li is an internationally recognized expert in the no-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) and a leading researcher in microsurgery and male reproductive physiology. Working with Dr. Marc Goldstein and Dr. Peter Schlegel, Dr. Li was one of the key figures in developing the AVSC International surgical manual and protocol for NSV techniques, which has become a standard technique for vasectomy in the United States. He has served as a consultant on the NSV for AVSC International since 1988. He has personally trained several hundred urologists, surgeons and family practitioners to perform NSV in North and South America, Europe and Asia. His expertise in the field of male surgical contraception and microsurgical research in male infertility has been well recognized by his professional colleagues. Dr. Li has trained many urologists and clinical andrologists from all over the world, including physicians from Austria, Germany, UK, Italy, Taiwan, Spain, Israel, Canada, Japan, India, Venezuela, Brazil, Portugal, Egypt and Mexico. He was invited by the American Austrian Foundation to organize several microsurgical-training programs in Austria between from 1994-1998.

Dr. Li has authored or co-authored 54 papers in peer-reviewed journals, books, book chapters on topics related to male reproductive medicine and microsurgery. Dr. Li has pioneered several microsurgical techniques for male infertility treatment and performed numerous research projects under the guidance of Dr. Marc Goldstein. He has established Cornell Brady Urology Studio and directed and produced over 19 medical videos and DVD for male infertility and urological microsurgical techniques and treatment in past seven years. Many of these multimedia tapes, DVD videos were awarded The Best Urology Video Prize at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and The First Prize at the American Urologic Association (AUA) national meeting. He has presented over 54 abstracts on topics of male infertility at national and international medical conferences. In addition, he has obtained and submitted over 10 US patents since 1996.

Working closely with Dr. Marc Goldstein and Dr. Peter Schlegel at Cornell University, Dr. Li has developed an informative website, http://www.maleinfertility.org, which has received global attention and recognition for its insight and contents on topics of "What's New for Male Infertility Treatment at Cornell". He is also a website editor for the male infertility section of Cornell urology website, www.cornellurology.com. Dr. Li is a co-founder for www.urologystone.com website.

Dr. Li is a member of several medical and professional societies, including the American Urologic Association (AUA), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine ( ASRM) and the American Society of Andrology (ASA). Dr. Li had served as one of the board-member for the Membership Committee (2001to 2002) of the American Society of Andrology. He is also on the International Editorial Committee board of the National Journal of Andrology (China). Dr. Li graduated medical school in Chongqing, China in 1983 and completed his surgery/urology residency training in his hometown of Chongqing, China in 1986. Before Dr. Li came to the USA from China in 1988, he worked with his mentor, Dr. Li Shunqiang, who is a prominent pioneer in clinical Andrology and internationally known as the inventor of the No-Scalpel Vasectomy technique. Dr. Li was a post-doctoral fellow in male infertility and microsurgery at the Population Council, Center for Biomedical Research on the campus of Rockefeller University; with a joint fellowship at the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery, Department of Urology, the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University under the direction of Dr. Marc Goldstein from 1988 to 1991. He completed his fellowship in male infertility and microsurgery in 1991 and has been working as a faculty member at Cornell since 1992.

Among Dr. Li's other credits, he is a long distance runner and successfully completed the New York City Marathon in 1997 and 1998. He is happily married to his wife for over 18 years and the father of two lovely daughters.
